Why did I change to this style of editorial family photography?
How is it different from before?
What am I doing differently?
Before there was this illusion of perfection.
Perfect hair, perfect dress, matching outfits.
It was so false, and not fulfilling to me anymore.
Family photos should be raw, authentic, true to life– a reflection of the family itself.
I want the kids’ hair not to be fixed every two seconds.
I want you to feel comfortable wearing jeans.
You don’t need to have a perfect, Colgate commercial smile.
I just want you to enjoy yourself. Move freely with your kids. Be in a moment of time that would otherwise be forgotten.
Let’s be real, raw, and authentic.
My studio has both white and black curtains to provide an organic yet editorial vibe. The studio itself is all white. It’s all about the atmosphere for editorial sessions like this.
I felt that there had to be families looking for something outside the traditional idea of what family photos look like, so I went in an editorial direction. In addition to being great for families, it’s perfect for engagement sessions with couples who want to do something unique.
Amber took these beautiful photos of my kids and I, and to say I’m obsessed would be an understatement.
