There are some couples you meet and instantly know they’re just meant to be. That was Tate and Haden. From the moment I walked into their wedding at Union Station. It was obvious how much these two adore each other. They weren’t worried about having a “perfect” day. They were just so excited to finally be married, and honestly, that made every part of the day feel even more special. Between the black tie attire, meaningful little details (including Tate’s Taylor Swift-inspired necklace), and one of the most iconic venues in Kansas City, their wedding felt timeless from start to finish. But what stood out the most wasn’t the venue or the decor, it was how effortlessly these two loved each other. They spent the entire day smiling, laughing, and sneaking little looks at each other, and those are always my favorite weddings to photograph!
Getting Ready Before Their Wedding at Union Station
One of my favorite parts of any wedding day is getting to photograph all the little details before everything starts. Tate had the prettiest Jimmy Choo heels with pearl details. Her gorgeous dress, and of course, her Taylor Swift-inspired necklace that added such a personal touch. I love when couples include details that actually mean something to them because those are the things you’ll love looking back on years from now. The morning felt so relaxed.
Tate spent it getting ready with her favorite people, popping champagne, laughing, and sharing a few emotional moments with her mom while she helped her with the veil. It wasn’t rushed or stressful, it just felt like everyone was soaking in the excitement of the day. Haden’s morning had a similar vibe. He and his groomsmen got ready in classic black tuxedos before heading over to Union Station. And once everyone was together, you could definitely feel the anticipation building.
Why a Wedding at Union Station Never Goes Out of Style
Union Station is one of those venues that doesn’t need much to make an impact. Between the huge windows, historic architecture, and all the natural light, every corner feels like the perfect backdrop for photos. Tate’s cathedral veil looked incredible flowing across the hardwood floors. And those grand windows gave us some of my favorite portraits of the entire day. Honestly, we could’ve spent another hour wandering around because every room offered something different. What made these portraits even better, though, was Tate and Haden. They made my job so easy because they were completely wrapped up in each other. Half the time I didn’t even have to give them direction, they were already laughing, talking, and stealing little moments together. Those candid interactions are always my favorite because they feel the most like you.
A Reception Full of Love (and a Packed Dance Floor)
The reception was such a good mix of elegant and fun. The neutral florals paired perfectly with the grand space at Union Station, and everything felt classic without being over the top. After the ceremony, it was time to celebrate. Their first dance was so sweet, family and friends were all in, and once the live band got started, the dance floor stayed full for the rest of the night. One thing I kept noticing throughout the day was how Tate and Haden always found each other. Even in a room full of people, they’d catch each other’s eye or share a little smile before jumping back into the celebration. Those tiny moments are the ones couples usually don’t even realize are happening, but they’re some of my favorite memories to capture because they tell the real story of the day.
